History of Varicad Thottungal Family

As far as we could go backwards, it is learned that Shri.Varkey Thottungal from Kuravalangadu migrated to Kavumbhagom, Tiruvalla between 1780 and 1800. He was married to Mariamma of Kalarickal family, Idinjillam(Tiruvalla). They were blessed with four sons. All of them were members of Tiruvalla Paliakkara Orthodox Church. When the Mar Thoma Syrian Church was established, they became the founder members of St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church (SCS), Tiruvalla.

They are

  1. Shri.Kurien

  2. Shri.Varkey (Angeaveed & Puthenpurayil),

  3. Shri.Oommen (Kanjirathinmmoottil & Karakattu)

  4. Shri.Mathen (Edasseriparampil).

Shri. Kurien had five sons and two daughters:-

  1. Shri.Varkey (Padijare Veedu & Peedikayil)

  2. Shri.Ittiyera (Kizhakke Veedu)

  3. Shri.Thomas (Naduvile Veedu)

  4. Smt. Aleyamma - married to Shri. Eappen [Varathrappallathu (Muttumpattu)]

  5. Shri.Yohannan (Died after marriage - no children)

  6. Smt.Annamma married to Shri. Philip (Modayil)

  7. Shri.T.K. Ninan (Brook Side Pallom)

In view of family expansion, they had migrated to Varicad and had settled there (except Shri.T.K. Ninan, who settled in Pallom and was following CSI faith).

Shri. Varkey Chacko donated land for constructing a new Church in Varicad and with the active co-operaton of other settlers, they had established Sehion Mar Thoma Church, Varicad in 1924 .

As of now, most of our members of Tiruvalla Thottungal family are either working or settled in all over Kerala, other states in India, countries in Gulf, Africa, Europe, North America and Australia. The pursuits of life have taken our members far apart and there are only rare chances to meet together. The coming generation gets estranged from their home land and other members of the family. This serious thought amoung many of our members had resulted in forming the official Varicad -Thottungal Kudumbayogam.

The Annual Meet (Kudumbasangamam) conducted every year on the first Tuesday or Friday immediately after Christmas gives a chance to meet together, to get acquainted, to exchange ideas, to share the affection and concern and so on .....
